How many sessions will I need?

The length of therapy is a rather subjective element and not something that can be predefined. The number of sessions needed is very much related to the willingness of the members of your family to participate in therapy, your readiness to make changes in your life and your eagerness to assume responsibility for your actions and feelings. Each person’s/family’s needs and agreed goals will also influence the length of therapy meetings.

However, we will collaboratively decide on the number and frequency of therapy sessions. We set mutual goals and discuss the length of time expected to achieve the goals. Most sessions last between 50min to 1h and 30min depending on the type of our meeting (individual/ couple/ family/ professional network).

No. I use my skills and understanding of relationships to work with every combination of family relationship: whole families or couples, parents with children or individual members across the lifespan (from children to older adults). During the course of treatment not all members of a family attend each session. Additionally, I may work in partnership with the wider network of professionals involved with a family to guarantee an effective and helpful coordination of care plan.

As a family therapist do you work only with families?

What will happen on the first session?

As Aristotle said, “well begun is half done”! Namely, a solid beginning is very important. For this reason I see the first session as a good opportunity for me to get to know you and/or your family and for you to get to know me as a therapist. The first session is going to be focused on you,; who you are, the reasons that brought you in therapy and what you want to achieve through it. During this first therapeutic encounter I hope to lay the foundations of a strong therapeutic and trusting relationship, in which we will focus on the best strategies for you and discuss the path you wish to map out in your life!

What is Family and Systemic therapy and how can it help?

FAQs

Family and Systemic Therapy – often called Family Therapy – is a process focused on supporting  people in close relationships to help each other. It will enable you to heal and learn more constructive ways of communication and of dealing with the problems or issues within your lives. Particularly at difficult phases of the life-cycle (i.e. becoming new parents, starting school, puberty, leaving home, divorcing or separating parents etc.) or during periods of increased stress (i.e. bereavement, loss of work, illness or disability in the family, migration, alcohol or drug misuse, effects of trauma, domestic violence etc.), Family Therapy can be a supportive process. In this way, you will learn to solve your problems alone while having someone there for guidance, coaching, support and partnership.

Additionally, research shows that Family Therapy is a useful therapeutic approach for children, young people and adults experiencing a wide range of situations and problems, as well as relationship difficulties.
When you are unable to keep a booked appointment please be kind to inform me at least one day before the meeting as there is a 24-hour cancellation policy. Failure to do so would result in the full charge of the missed session.
